20 years of experience doing police work, 55 years old investigator and interrogator Roger Skidmore gave us tips straight from his lips to share us his experience with different kinds of lies and how to spot them, from big murder crimes to simple disputes, roger investigated all kinds and interrogated suspects. No matter how good you are at lying these tips will expose you.

They’re uncomfortable looking straight into your eye

This is the most common sign to spot a liar; liars can’t look straight into your eyes because they become conscious of being exposed of through their actions or facial expression.

They touch their face or their mount

Subconsciously they will touch their face or mouth, this is due to the element of surprise when a liar is caught lying they can’t seem to find an exit they often touch their face or mouth to buy some time to think of a good excuse, a slight delay in answer can give them time to think of an excuse to cover up the lie.

Scratching their body parts preferably their face, neck or arms

When liars get pissed off because they get caught in a lie they usually touch or scratch their face, neck or arms this is a sign that they got upset and can’t think clearly, they subconsciously scratch their body parts not knowingly they expose themselves to an obvious lie.

They divert the topic to a different one

When caught in a lie; liars will often try to divert or distance themselves from the topic, either they try to bring up the past or put someone else in the topic to avoid the question.

They talk too fast

Getting caught in a lie can cause emotional stress to people, this stress can also give us signs that the person is lying, pay close attention on how they talk, if they talk in a slow manner or normal speed that means they are relaxed and telling the truth this shows that they are not stressed from the conversation. While on the other hand when a person is stressed out they usually talk very fast, this is a sign that they are stressed out from the conversation and lying will stress them out thinking they might get exposed, this will often cause them to stress out.

Observe how they say “NO”

Try to ask a liar a question, and notice how they answer “NO”.
  • When a person says no and looks the other way
  • When a person says no and close their eyes at the same time
  • When a person says no and hesitates
  • When a person says no in a very long manner “Noooo!”
  • When a person says no with a singing tone

Repeat your questions

When you repeat your question all over on different conversations they will eventually give a different answer than before. If not try to rinse and repeat they will eventually give you a different answer or a slightly different version from the last answer, in this way liars forget the tiny details they lie about.

They give too much information

Finally liars will often prepare themselves before having a conversation with you, liars usually rehears themselves practicing and making up stories to cover up the lie. When asked questions they can immediately answer without a thought it is because they already practiced what to say. Truthful people will often pause for a brief moment to refresh their memories.
